Under Pressure

Tonight's dinner was an experiment....one that I feared might result in "bodily or property damage."  Steve spontaneously ordered me a pressure cooker a few weeks ago (amazon.com sale--what else?) and tonight was its maiden run.  I thought we'd start simple so we made some lentil curry.  Not to hate on the good people at Presto, but I'm scared a little of my new pot/pan.  As a chemical engineer, I'm fairly familiar with high pressure vessels and the resulting consequences of a mishap.  Steve was not so convinced we were crafting an explosive situation on the stove and did all the gadget handling.  All in all, the experience was positive: it only took us two tries to get it working, the dinner cooked in 3 minutes as promised, and we and our kitchen are still intact.

I love my pressure cooker. I too was scared when reading the directions. I just threw my chicken in and crossed my fingers. Turned out great.

I remember doing quite a few meals in the pressure cooker.(It was many years ago.) Things like stew that can take along time to cook. Good luck with future recipes! I wonder how ribs would turn out?

I think it's a healthy fear. I wouldn't touch a pressure cooker with a 10 foot pole . . . for now. I'll be keeping my eye out for an update to ease my curiosity, or a post about your visit to the burn unit.

My aunt was just telling me yesterday that she went to a class on all sorts of things to cook in a presser cooker. She is sold on the idea. I think I'm still scared because I'm picturing my grandma's 40 year old pressure cooker exploding applesauce all over the kitchen.

The technology has to have improved, right? Maybe adopting this cooking method would relieve my "oh no! It's already 5:30" problem.
