While at the arboretum yesterday, we came across this ferocious beast:
This king of the jungle seemed very engaged in testing the groundcover, patroling his territory, and surveying his animal kingdom.
He seemed so cute and cuddly, though, we decided to take him home!
If you couldn't tell, Clark is a lion this year for Halloween. I was literally one click away from ordering Clark a dog costume on a few occasions, but decided to try and make his costume last-minute. A trip to Joann's and a week later, voila. Mission accomplished!
For any curious seamstresses, I used McCall's pattern M6015 (.99!) in size ½ (commercial patterns tend to run huge in baby/toddler sizes) and modified the length using some of Clark's pj's as a guide. The headpiece took the longest and I feared he would destroy at least part of it and certainly not keep it on his head, but he's worn the costume for a trunk or treat activity, a playgroup, and a photoshoot so far and doesn't seem to mind the mane. He must be aware of how cute it looks around his already adorable face!

He'll only mind the costume when you show the picture of it to his girlfriend when he is 16! He looks adorable. Great job on the costume.
The cutest Lion, Dorothy, and Scarecrow family I have ever seen. The lion was especially cute!
Kalina- he is SO CUTE! Can't stand it.
Hi! I know you made this is 2011 but where did you find this fabric? Its perfect for this costume and I don't know where to find it!
Thank you so much! Tina
@Tina I got the fabric from JoAnn's. I saw it there and thought it was perfect but I haven't seen it there lately. :(
Oh no! Ill check out my local fabric stores hopefully I can find something similar. I just want to say I LOVE how you did this! It's a classy costume lol the fabric and colors you choose are perfect. I love the brown ears and feet. It turned out so cute. My son Is seven months., I hope my version tunes out as cute. When you made the body suit did you line it with anything?
@Tina I didn't line the body with anything, though I finished off all the seams with my serger. I lined the headpiece with an old brown t-shirt which is also what I used for the dark part on the ears and the feet pads.
One more question! When you did the ribbon is it only on the head piece or did you continue it onto the chest as well? My son hatttttes the head piece he rips it off lol
@tina lol! Kids have a mind of their own! I was shocked that mine actually wore the headpiece. To answer your question, yes, there was also ribbon on the chest. It was in an inverse triangle shape: fuller at the top and tapering down to a point.
Kalina Thank you so much for your help! He wore his costume last night and he even wore the little hat for a while, even though it turned out a little big for him we made it work :)
I thought you might like to see it? Ill post a link to my flickr

@Tina I was thinking about you on Halloween and wondered how the costume turned out. I LOVE it! Thanks so much for thinking to send me a picture. You did such a great job and that picture is perfect!
Thank you! There are a few more posted if you go to the left of that photo! I hand sewed the ribbon on because I didn't trust my little man with just hot glue lol. Mine didn't turn out as clean looking as yours but I was really happy with it. I got a lot of complements. Thanks again :))
