Welcome to the World, Lana!

Since we've been enjoying our little bundle of joy for a few weeks I thought I'd go back and share some of Lana's birth story.

I was due December 18th but since baby hadn't arrived my doctor scheduled an induction for me on the 23rd. The night before the scheduled induction I started having regular contractions. Around 3 am they were quite painful and coming every 4 minutes so I woke up Steve to let him know the baby was on its way! I was relieved since I was very anxious about being induced.

As we were getting ready to go Steve asked me what he should wear. I jokingly said a suit and tie and a few minutes later he returned in his Sunday best. It was Sunday morning, after all and I guess he wanted to look appropriate for the day. When we arrived at the hospital around 4 am the nurses wondered if we had just come from a holiday party. ha ha.
Lana Kirsi was born at 10:13 am, was 20.75 inches long, and a whopping 8lbs. 10oz! We've both always like the name Lana and her middle name is the Finnish version of Christina (Steve speaks Finnish).
All of Lana's grandparents and Clark came to meet her later that day. Clark seemed so rambunctious at the hospital that I was a little nervous to bring a newborn home but he was very gentle with his new baby sister.
Lana and I were discharged from the hospital on Christmas Day. It was a little strange waking up in a hospital bed on Christmas morning, then spending half the day alone while Steve drove my parents to the airport.
We went home and spent a quiet day to ourselves. We planned to do the whole gift opening the next day since Clark is too young to know the difference. It was certainly unlike any other Christmas I've ever had, but filled with joy as we brought the newest member of our family home.
Clark shared his toys with Lana right away when we got home.

Holy Moly

Having a newborn--especially one that likes to spit up--has increased my frequency of washing clothes. Lately, all the laundry has turned into one of my tricks to keep Clark out of trouble while I'm tending to Lana. He gets a thrill from pulling all the clothes out of the dryer, taking a ride in the basket (if I'm available), then dumping its contents all over my floor. Once the laundry is spread all over the floor he stays busy for quite a while throwing it into the air and shouting "holy moly!"
Despite scattering clean clothes everywhere, Clark is learning to put some of his own away, namely his PJ's and underwear. We're still working on the rest.

Stories with Grandma

Clark has had a lot of guest readers for storytime in the past few weeks. His grandmas make especially good readers, and it's even more exciting when they share their "glaffes". Thank you grandmas for coming to read with us!

More of Lana

More pictures of Lana from the past 10 days.

I knit the hats she's wearing...plus about 10 more that either didn't fit or didn't make the cut in my very brief attempt at a newborn photo shoot. My friend Rebecca made the lovely headband.
