Rodeo Season Kickoff

Rodeo season is kicking off here in Houston and we went on an excursion this morning to enjoy some of the festivities. Steve and Mark participated in the Rodeo Run 10K and I took the kids to cheer them on. While waiting for our runners, we walked over to see the Spanish Trail Riders head into town and listen to their blaring country music. Yee-haw! I regret not wearing my cowboy duds, though, since most of the spectators were decked out in western wear.  

Crafting up Some Love

I spent Valentine's Day this year nursing my cold-ridden family. Instead of making a special meal I made a special pot of chicken noodle soup. We didn't let a bit of sickness get in the way of holiday crafting, though! Steve got some sweet valentines that Clark made, Lana got a fancy new headband, and Clark had a ball stamping hearts with an empty toilet paper roll.

Catch Ball

Steve and Clark made up a new game that Clark calls "catch ball" on Sunday that kept them busy, and laughing, for over 30 minutes. Steve tossed an inflatable ball in the air and Clark ran into it with his head or face, laughing hysterically all the while. Steve loved it since he could sit in one spot and Clark loved it because, well, I'm not sure why. 

As expected, though, Clark requested to play again last night:

New Flooring

We recently redid the flooring in our bathroom...it's very kid-friendly, no?

ha ha. This is how my bathroom floor looked after I got ready for church this morning. Though it's a bit unsightly--and a tripping hazard--I know that this 'toys scattered everywhere' phase won't last forever so I want to remember it. Looking at these makes me smile because it reminds me I have a young, sweet, happy boy that loves "digger things" and being with his mama.

Blessing Day

Lana was blessed last Sunday in a delicate family heirloom dress on loan from my mom. We're glad that our Houston family could come share in our joy on Lana's special day.

Sweet little Lana has been so smiley lately but I haven't been able to capture it on camera...until today! Her little smiles just melt this mommy's heart.  

The Real Us

This has been a tough week. Around here when the going gets rough, I get out my camera to mix things up! I wanted to try out the tripod Steve got me for Christmas to take a few shots of what a typical day at home looks like.

Here are the 3 of us, sitting in front of the bed I make everyday in vain since Clark wastes no time unmaking it and throwing all the pillows on the floor. Too bad the layer of toys spread across the floor is cropped out. I have makeup on but haven't touched my hair, per my usual look. Clark is characteristically missing pants--his typical at-home look since I potty trained him. Lana is still wearing pajamas and it's after lunch. Who knows? She may end up wearing them all day until I change her into different PJ's tonight. In one picture she's sporting a bit of spit up since I took the photo before I noticed. oh well. We may not be perfectly put together but we're still smiling!

One day I'll take a "nice" family photo of all 4 of us, but I think it'll be just as fun to look back someday on a more realistic view of my life as a young mom.
