A Look Back at May

Here's a look back at some of the things we did throughout the month of May. Included are: a visit to Discovery Green park, a trip to the zoo, first swim of the season, hand foot and mouth disease (boo!), Clark in various "cages", a quilt top I finished, and one installment of undies on Clark's head.

New Sunday Pants

Clark has been growing, as kids do, so he's been wearing "floods" to church for a little while. A couple weeks ago, as I was inspired by the sewing bloggers' Spring kids clothing week challenge, I decided to make him some new pants. After I finished the first pair I thought I might as well make another while I was in pants-making mode. So he got two new pairs of pants in one week.
This was the first pair I made from a pair of women's linen pants I purchased for $2. I made them with a slim fitting leg and plenty of length to grow into.
The next pair is made from a pair of Steve's old pants I reclaimed from the donation pile. These are more of a straight leg style. The best part about using pants to make pants is that I reuse the hem, linings, zipper, and button(s).
Total cost of 2 [cute] new pairs of pants: $2!

So Close

When Lana was born it seemed like she was happy to be here and was ready to get going in the world. I remember sensing that vibe while we were still in the hospital. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, then, that she's already so close to crawling at barely 5 months old. I'm okay with her learning to crawl already, but hopefully my sweet little baby doesn't grow up too fast!

Lana is 5 Months Old

Lana turned 5 months yesterday. She is a lovely little person to have in our family. She adores her brother and always wants to see what he's doing. Steve and I can make her laugh but she doesn't laugh as much for anyone or anything than for her brother. She thinks Clark is the funniest person alive. It is so sweet to hear her crack up at his antics. In fact, I couldn't get her to smile for these pics so I invited Clark to come help and she was all smiles after that. She often clasps her hands together but when she's sitting in the Bumbo her arms are straight out to the sides. For 3 weeks now she's been pushing her legs up into a crawling position and last week she started rocking. It won't be long before she figures out how to get moving.

Clark is very sweet with his sister and quite often does "tummy tummies" with her. He always makes sure she has a toy--usually cars--and uses his baby voice to talk to and explain things to her. He likes to help change diapers and hold her and gets excited when she wakes up from naps. This afternoon when he heard her wake up from naptime he raced upstairs shouting, "Lana! I'm coming for you, Lana!"
